You know how it works. No matter how much pre-planning and organisation, what you’ve seen on your map isn’t the same a when you arrive in a big city. Especially a large foreign city such as New York. You could spend time with your map trying to circumnavigate your location, or you could use your current digital device, such as your laptop.

Loki is a toolbar for Firefox that enables you to quickly find your location via WPS (WiFi Positioning Service). You can pinpoint your location to street level and then use your digital map to find where you need to be located.

Loki is far more than a digital on-demand location tool. It also enables you to search for places of interest near to your location. Instead of walking around London looking for your nearest Chinese restaurant, bring the restaurant to you by searching for nearby eating establishments.

Note that Loki is still in development and primarily supports the US. European support is planned ‘for 2006’ (thus, in April 2007 is now late), so if you’re a European laptop user, it might be worth a download so you can familiarise yourself with the product.

This is a Windows-only extension.
