Skype 5 has received a visual makeover and a number of new features

When it comes to making free calls across the internet using Voice over IP technology, Skype is certainly leading the pack. With almost 26 million people having downloaded the software, Skype is the most used free internet application.
Developed by the people behind the file-sharing service Kazaa, Skype offers free internet telephony with another PC user as long as both have the Skype software.
Of course, you're not limited to making calls, either. If you can see another Skype user online, you can request a text-based chat, in the same manner as you would through Windows Live Messenger or similar applications. If they're not at their desk, they will see your message as soon as they return.
This is the official release of Skype 5. New features include a new, easier to use design, the ability to automatically recover dropped calls and a new feature enabling users to call and text friends from their Facebook News Feed and Phonebook.

Latest SKYPE
Over the recent past Skype IMPOSE changes and the latest is no different. Try to confront them and they ignore the message. My maxime - if it aint broke.. dont fix it. I find nothing added by the latest version.. just the down side.

Skype does seem to know about it own Update
Have read the info on V3 about the new version I opened Skype (V5.3.0.120) and checked for updates. It report I had the latest version so why are they not allowing V5.5.0.113. Today is the 10th Aug.

webcam is not working properly
disappointed - now webcam is not working properly- I have used skype out from the day before it was released - this interface is BAD - when a call is dropped ( that can happen with any IP phone )you cant see the status of the other person -just a phone icon - I download this hoping I won't have the clumsy interface filling my screen -

if u r using anything prior to 4.anything, this is a HUGE DOWNGRADE
Skype have seriously messed up since all the 4. versions. (at this time the latest is 4.0.0.216) The points made on this web site about extras and improvements seem like Skype marketing material, and not accurate. Much has been removed from these new versions (anything version 4 so far). I love the versions prior to this, even though the voice was not quite as good as Yahoo. They use to be more practical. I do like that there is no advertising with Skype. Thats the main pro about it. Its a lot of image, but its a shocker when you compare to how practical the older versions are before anything version 4. Now they have all these separate bars that take up all this room on the contacts page. Use to be able to remove them. Cant delete any item in history. Extra steps to get to history now. oh yeah, it looks nice with video, but when it comes to real world use where i have a million things going on my computer, this new version doesnt care. I am in this short time sticking with the old version until i work out what to do. The chat window has been severely lobotomized so as its only practical for short texts. It looks nicer, but is severely degraded. I cant use this for chat. I need to use it sometimes, even though i use mainly voice. Thats what comes to mind. This new version is all about show, and the rest is cant this , cant that, and does extra steps for that., and cant to this that or the other, where its available on other popular communication software. In terms of practicality, you would think these guys designed skype for 15 years ago.
