With the rise of faster high-speed broadband, sending and receiving large files should be so much easier. However, ISPs set an outgoing size limitation on your email, so many of us can’t send (and often receive) large files, photos and other data, by email. One alternative is to place the files on your free homepage, but unless you know what you’re doing, how do you make these files available to your friends, without having to give them your root user/pass for the server?
Another option is the peer-to-peer network, but this is currently a solution for the general population and it’s not easy to make sure that only your friends, family and colleagues receive your files. Basically, anyone could access them.
Swapper is a solution to providing files to designated people through a private sharing network. It’s fairly simple to use. Just select the files you want to share with other people, then send them an email with directions on how they can download. They can then obtain the files in their own time.
The only downside is that the system is limited to supplying files up to 250MB in size. Perfect for sharing your photos and small videos.
