Ever heard a song playing on the radio or on a television advert, you like it, but you have no way of finding the title or artist? Or even more annoyingly you’ve got a song in your head; you’ve heard it many times before but just can’t seem to remember what’s it’s called.

Tunatic is a useful tool that aims to identify a song's title and artist by simply having the song played back to it.

Either plug in a microphone, or your sound source (e.g. radio) directly into your computer and Tunatic will check the song's melody and timbre against its online database. This database is updated regularly by the community of Tunatic users through a program called Tunalyze, and they actively encourage new users to join up.

The program does a good job of identifying songs and, although the server can often be down for maintenance, this piece of software will surely prove useful for those interested in new music.
