Designed by Microsoft, ClearType improves the appearance of text on a TFT monitor.

By tweaking the fonts to make them look smoother, it makes text crisper and easier to read. Without ClearType, the smallest level of detail that a monitor can display is a single pixel.

However, with ClearType running on a TFT monitor, it can display fractions of a pixel which means smoother, clearer text can be displayed.

This automatic download is the ClearType activation for Windows XP. When installed it will ask you to go through a series of configuration steps that will adjust the appearance of the text to your liking.
