The Portable Document Format (PDF) from Adobe, is a cross-platform file format that can carry images, text and even moving images these days.

The software works by acting as a printer driver, and all it takes to create a PDF is to print the document and select PDF995 as the printer. The file is then converted to a PDF and saved to the specified location.

Along with creating PDFs, PDF995 can convert a PDF into any of the following formats - JPG, TIFF, BMP< PCX, TXT, HTML and DOC. It integrates with MS Office, allowing for easy creation from within this suite of applications.

For those that need it there is support for digital signatures and triple DES encryption.

The downside to this free software is that an advert is opened in your browser every time you create a PDF, but this is a small price to pay. If it really annoys you it is possible to upgrade for $9.95.
