FirePublisher Enterprise Server is a server application that brings your intranet to Palm devices, giving your staff access wherever they may be, whether out in the field or on the factory floor.
Simply install, 'point' to the intranet web server, distribute copies of FireViewer to all Palm users you wish to have access, and away you go.
The manufacturer states that most IT professionals should have FirePublisher set up and running within an hour.
Any content laid out at the web server will now appear on any of the FireViewer-equipped Palm devices. It includes user authentication and blanket customer support.
Essentially, FirePublisher is a specialised HTTP proxy server that takes content from a standard web server, translates and compresses the HTML and image content into a format optimised for Palm devices, and sends this data over to the Palm via TCP/IP.
This data can either be received wirelessly (where devices permit) or during a normal HotSync process.
The combined technology of FirePublisher and FireViewer allows such things as migration of service manuals to the Palm device, enabling mechanics to view this documentation on their Palm wherever they are.
