Some users were disappointed with the release of Mozilla Firefox 2.0. After months of betas, release candidates and previews, the new features weren’t as spectacular as people expected. However, there is only so much you can do to improve a web browser.
With the release of Mozilla Firefox 3, Mozilla decided to work hard on speeding up the rendering engine, so the web graphics has received a completely new upgrade. Dubbed ‘ Cairo’, the new graphics rendering engine should improve the output across different platforms, as it’s being developed as an open-standard.
With other improvements in the way that pages are ‘painted’ on screen, improved SVG support and CSS enhancements, the general improvements for Firefox 3.0 are based around the way it will render web pages through the browser. The new browser also ships with a new user-interface, improved bookmarks and many other new features.
The latest v3.6.25 release ships with a number of new features including improved performance, security and stability.
Note that this is the legacy version of Firefox 3, updated for security reasons, but replaced with Firefox 5, which is now the current version.

3.6.18 is by far better than 4.0.1
I downloaded and started to use Mozilla Firefox 3.6.18 on a laptop and could frankly say that it is by far better and fdaster than 4.0.1 which I downladed and using on a desktop and two separate laptops.Mozilla 4.0.1 is slow in findig web addresses and slow in suggesting web destinations when you start typing a name. The UI is also much more useful and attractive. 3.6 & Google
I HATE the new format for Google - the cluttered front page, the tabbed interior, its a really retrograde step. Always likely to be an issue when no longer a truly independent provider but a commercial one (ie F.Fox). Please give an option to select the "clean & simple" Google layout before I revert to IE and set up the browser page myself.

firefox 3.6 and norton ips history repeats itself
Ive always used firefox however I too am getting fed up , with both parties, I lived through the fiasco last time when add ons wouldnt work repeated promises of fixes for either toolbars or parts of norton that wouldnt work whenever a firefox update or new version came out, last time i had to upgrade norton suite to 2010 to resolve exactly same issues, complaining to either firefox or norton did no good at all, and low and behold here we go again on the roundabout! norton has just updated its toolbar to 4.5 version , its ips is still at version 2.0, No doubt many will say but there is this workaround etc , but obviously previous experiences of incompatibility have not been learned. a nother prime example is internet explorer 8, just patched! though it took several govts to get microsoft to sort it out! wonder just how long it will take norton and firefox to sort these issues out, I suppose i could switch security and or browser but why should I? seems to be the norm these days bad customer service especially by paid comapnies like ms and norton at least firefox is free!

Firefox
Downloaded this last night, was very quick to download. The browser is much quicker and more stable than IE8. It loads tabs loads faster than IE, it used to take 10-20 seconds. Very pleased.

Firefox 3.5.4
I ended up having to download it from the Firefox website as the download in Computeractive refused to install. So far so good, but have always preferred it to IE anyway.

Firefox 3.5 slow to start
As a long time Firefox user this latest version is terribly slow on start up. I have timed it between 30 and 60 seconds to load up the home page and sometimes it just doesn't happen at all. The Firefox Support Forum does cover this issue but it seems a possible fix of clearing the IE cache might or might not work whilst the developers look for another solution.

the worst firefox ever
I have been using what is now called Firefox for years, argued it's corner spoke up for it in forums, but them days are well over, it has changed to a system hogging bug filled waste of space. It will not turn of properly hardly ever, even if i use taskmaster TO END IT'S PROCCESS it still sits there using upwards of 150,000KB'S I have real problem login in to certain websites etc.. etc. I have moved to a cross between, Google(superfast)chrome, and opera. I am updating to the latest F/Fincarnation if there is no improvement then goodbye F/F, And, I SUPPOSE with the new edition half my add-ons will not be working it's been a great ride but chrome even in it's beta stage and without many add-ons beats it where it matters: footprint and speed thanks 4 letting me get that off my chest. Before people start writing in saying try this try that to late already been down every avenue,THE KING IS DEAD LONG LIVE THE KING

Best release so far...
In my experience Firefox 3 is stable and reliable, and remarkably trouble-free in use. The security features are unmatched, especially with add-ons like NoScript, and the many improvements, from the smart location bar to the now very useful download manager, make it an invaluable tool, especially for serious research, where its superior text-handling features (caret selection, plain-text copy, etc.) come into their own. Still feels a little heavy and sluggish on Windows (despite its excellent Javascript benchmarks) compared with the best of the Chinese Trident-based browsers (Maxthon, TheWorld) or with K-Meleon, but still probably the best browser all round.

Firefox 3 -an improvement?
I have just gone back to Firefox 2 in desperation. I cannot save bookmarks, the toolbar text changes size randomly, the address window history has no privacy and finally the browser accesses the hard-drive all the time for minutes on end. All these problems are freely discussed on the Mozilla website and many users are down grading.

Firefox 3 for Linux?
You seem to have forgotten that we, the non-windoze people , also enjoy using Firefox. Any comments? vnunet.com comment: we haven't 'forgotten', in the same way we've not forgotten there is a Mac OS X version. However, the primary downloads on the site are Windows-based downloads. I'll add a reference that Linux and Mac versions are available, later.

More v3 info
First of all, 2.0 was a rather disappointing release not because they ran out of feature ideas, but because they didn't finish implementing those features by the 2.0 deadline. A lot of stuff was planned for 2.0, and much of it was postponed until the 3.0 release. Firefox 3.0 has a ton of improvements beyond web page rendering. It will have a new bookmarks system that will allow for quickly starring and tagging bookmarks and syncing them remotely, it will have full-page zooming support (rather than just changing the text size), it will have malware detection built in, and a bunch of other stuff. Firefox 3.0 and all prerelease versions thereof can definitely be used on the same machine as Firefox 2.0 if you know what you're doing. If you start Firefox with the command "firefox -ProfileManager" you get a dialog that lets you create and choose a new profile. A profile contains all of your settings including bookmarks, history, extensions, etc. If you use the profile manager, you can safely run Firefox 2.0 and Firefox 3.0 on the same machine under separate profiles.
