Watching TV on a PC is becoming much more popular, partly due to the reduction in the cost of TV capture cards, which you need for it to be possible, and the introduction of software such as ShowShifter.

Designed as an all-in-one media device, ShowShifter allows you to watch and record TV (TiVo style), and play back video files, DVDs and MP3s. All video formats supported by Windows Media player can be played in ShowShifter.

Television can be watched either within the ShowShifter interface or in full-screen mode, but the quality will drop as the window gets bigger. As mentioned, it can be used to play audio files, such as MP3s etc, but it is a little cumbersome for this.

Like similar programs such as SnapStream Personal Video Station, you will need a lot of free hard drive space to record TV, although once recorded it can be burnt onto CD for storage.
