This is the software publisher's description.
With PC Tools AntiVirus you are protected against the most nefarious cyber-threats attempting to gain access to your PC and personal information. Going online without protection against the latest fast-spreading virus and worms, such as Netsky, Mytob and MyDoom, can result in infections within minutes.
Once infected, the virus will usually attempt to spread itself to your friends, family and associates by accessing your email contacts and networked PCs. The infection may also allow hackers to access files on your PC, use it to launch attacks against other computers and websites or to send mass SPAM email.
That’s why PC Tools AntiVirus provides world-leading protection, with rapid database updates, OnGuard real-time protection and comprehensive system scanning to ensure your system remains safe and virus free. PC Tools products are trusted and used by millions of people everyday to protect their home and business computers against online threats.
Note that this is the free version of PC Tools AntiVirus. It requires a manual update to receive virus definitions and more.

Auto updates
I have just downloaded PC Tools Antivirus and so far so good, It's easy to use and are you sure that you have to update it manually?* Set mine to update every two hours! not seen it do it yet though? *vnunet.com comment: you can set it up to check manually or schedule updates. The point of the commercial edition is the auto-update and support.

Why?
I have been using Avira Antivir personal and it automatically updates every day. Why* can't this do the same or is it because they want you to upgrade and pay? *vnunet.com comment: this is the same as the commercial edition, apart from the fact you need to manually update and there is no support available. Fair enough, software suppliers have overheads and have to spend time researching to protect against the latest threats. Can you put a price on safeguarding your important data and files?
