For anyone who's ever played Brickout - and knows just how addictive that can be - here comes a similar game enhanced with musical notes and jungle animals!

In Note Cracker you can be a giraffe, an elephant or a camel. Your job is to bounce back a ball which is going to destroy rows of musical rests. At the end of each level, you progress to the next by answering a mini quiz about the duration of the rest you've just learnt about. Treble clefs symbolise the number of lives you have left, and gaming speed can be set from Adagio to Presto.

You will have guessed that despite the animal theme, this is a game about music. Throughout the different levels you will learn about musical symbols and what they represent. What makes it all the more compelling - apart from being able to use the excuse that it's educational to spend more time playing - is that the music, graphics and colours are very well chosen for this type of download. None of the usual garish colours or 'bleepy' music in this one.
