Many people like Notepad because of its simplicity. It loads up almost instantly, but its simplicity means that it lacks functions. Textpad also loads very quickly, but if you need more advanced functions, you?ll find them here.
It also lets you edit multiple files at once, with multiple views, has undo and redo options, a powerful search engine and built in comparison tools.
Users can program their own add-ons for Textpad which you can download, so check the web site if you're looking for a particular feature.
This is the latest major release (v5) which contains a number of new features, including dockable and movable document tabs, dockable search results and Windows Vista compatibility.
