Instead of upgrading your computer, a cheaper solution would be to upgrade the components. With large hard drives available for well under £100, there’s no reason why you couldn’t ditch your old 80GB drive and grab a larger drive and then use it for storing your audio, video and other media files.
The key problem is getting the data across from your old to your new drive. The answer is to connect the new drive as a slave to your old drive, using the IDE connector in your computer (instructions on the EASEUS website) and use some software that enables you to make a 1:1 copy of your original drive content. You can, of course, just copy a partition if you require.
EASEUS Disk Copy is free software that enables you to copy a drive or partition to another drive (or partition). It supports internal IDE, SCSI or external USB drives and will enable you to boot in a CD if you prefer to copy your drive outside of Windows.
Once you’ve finished copying your drive contents, simply re-configure the new drive as your primary and reboot. This can apply to both your system drive or just a basic partition with your work files.
