VMWare Server

This is the software publisher’s description.

Begin enjoying the benefits of server virtualisation with the free VMware Server. VMware Server installs on any existing server hardware and partitions a physical server into multiple virtual machines by abstracting processor, memory, storage and networking resources, giving you greater hardware utilization and flexibility. Streamline software development and testing and simplify server provisioning as you utilize the ability to "build once, deploy many times.

VMware Server is a free virtualization product for Windows and Linux servers with enterprise-class support and VirtualCenter management. VMware Server is a robust yet easy to use server virtualisation product and is based on proven virtualization technology, which has been used by thousands of customers for more than six years.

VMWare Server technology supports Intel Virtualization Technology, which means that your virtual operating system should run much faster than an emulated system as it can directly access the hardware on your host computer.

Note that, depending on the type of operating system you plan on hosting, you’ll need to download additional support files from the VMWare Server homepage. A Linux version is also available for download.

There are a number of pre-configured virtual appliances available to download from the VMWare website.
