Insane is the first game from Codemasters that has been specifically designed for use with the company's new online gaming network (Codemasters Multiplayer Network). When this goes live (24th Nov), owners of Insane will be able to challenge other users to an online race, with up to eight players per game!

This preview gives you some idea of what you can expect from the full release. As the name suggests, this is a full-on, manic racing game with few rules, and a great selection of different challenges/game modes. The choice of vehicles ranges from the typical off-road vehicle with behemoth wheels, to the unusual - full-on military vehicles!

The uniqueness of this game is in its format - there are no formalised tracks here, you simply drive where you wish and pass through the checkpoints in sequence. Be warned though, the short route isn't always the quickest - there are many hazards to avoid (potholes, boulders, buffalo).

You are informed of which direction you should be driving in by a floating arrow, and there is also an overhead map to inform you of your competitors' positions. Some great sound effects also keep you informed as to who is doing what, so you can keep your eyes on the (metaphorical) road where they are needed!

The graphics and gameplay are of an incomparable standard, and whether or not you like standard racing games you are going to love this. With so many different games to choose from, a wide range of different terrains and weathers to select and the ability to play online with up to eight other players, this is one game that will continue to surprise you for a long time.

This demo provides you with only a selection of vehicles and terrains available in the full version, but it is more than enough to get you hooked!

Note: This is a large demo, so I recommend you use a download manager to assist you. See here.
