Rather than backing up an entire drive and, if your drive is huge, this can take some time, the more popular option is to backup only your most important files and documents. For example, I make sure my fonts are regularly backed up as they are difficult to replace and, quite frankly, if I have to re-create web buttons years in the future, I can never remember the original font. I also backup key system files before moving to a new system.
