itunesiconAlthough under pressure from Spotify, iTunes for Windows and for Mac is the most popular cross-platform audio/media player. This week, the latest v10.4 was released, with full 64-bit support, designed to take full advantage of Apple's latest operating system, OS X Lion. New features include Full-Screen App capability, which enables you to navigate between your full-screen apps with a simple gesture. There were also a number of stability and performance improvements for both Mac and Windows users.

Another big release from Apple this week was Safari 5.1 for Windows and for Mac. The latest v5.1 ships with a number of updates such as a reading list, which enables you to add web pages and links for perusal at a later date, improved privacy via the preferences menu that makes it easier to remove website data and support for more advanced web technologies.

This week saw the long awaited release of VirtualBox 4.1. This popular virtualisation application, that enables users to run different operating systems on a single machine, ideal for testing new software. The latest 4.1, available for both Windows and Mac is a major upgrade. You can now clone your virtual machine (ideal for creating a backup version of your new VM), support for 1TB of memory under a 64-bit operating system, improved UI and more.

Over the years K-Lite Codec Pack has become the number one source of alternative codecs. It ships with just about every audio and video codec you'll ever need to view content online. The latest 7.5.0 includes many minor updates as well as added support for Blu-Ray playback.

There has also been a minor update for the ever-popular iolo System Mechanic 10.5.3. This comprehensive system maintenance and optimisation tool ships with everything you'd need to keep your PC running smoothly and can also be run in the background, without affecting day-to-day tasks. The latest 10.5.3 benefits from a number of speed and stability improvements.

With the increased interest and popularity in alternative web browsers, Lunascape has been added to the v3 download section. This innovative new browser ships with a triple rendering engine, taking the best elements from three popular existing browsers. As the browser is powered using three rendering engines, it is also compatible with an array of add-ons. The browser will work seamlessly with Firefox and IE add-ons as well as Lunascape's own plug-ins. Unfortunately, there is no Mac version available yet, but there are plans to produce one in the near future.

Last but not least, we recommend Postbox 2.5.1. This powerful alternative commercial email client is available for both Windows and Mac. Features include the ability to open emails in multiple tabs, ultra-fast searching, conversations and much more.
