cyberduckiconFinding the right security apps for your desktop PC or laptop is essential for keeping it in good working order. However, this isn't always easy. The right solution is completely dependent on the type of user, so theres no point shelling out for an expensive security suite when all thats required is a good quality freeware alternative. Take a good look at some of the free and commercial security software released this week.

Agnitum Outpost Security Suite Pro 7.5.1 provides protection against rogue software by pro-actively controlling how programs behave and interact on your PC. This popular security suite pro-actively monitors for and blocks the manner of sophisticated hacking techniques used to compromise or steal data, meaning that the risk of malicious activity is at a minimum.

Another popular application from Agnitum is Outpost Firewall Pro 7.5.1. This particular product is a great option for home users, but secure enough for more advanced users, too. The firewall can be used without any user-intervention but still enables the more seasoned user to tweak the configuration page to increase or decrease the protection level(s).

Those looking for a freeware utility for removing any unwanted items from their PC may want to check out IObit Malware Fighter Free 1.0. This freeware tool detects and removes infections and protects your PC from problems such as spyware, adware, trojans, key-loggers, bots, worms, and hijackers.

For Mac users, there's MacKeeper. This extensive selection of tools enables users to protect and maintain a smooth running computer with ease. As well as an Anti-Virus, other important include a handy file shredding feature and a Data Encryptor that hides files using a password so that the data cannot be found through Finder or Terminal. Be quick, MacKeeper is currently on offer via http://mackeeper.zeobit.com/.

One important release was Firefox 5.0.1. Although, at first glance there seem to be few new features with fewer new features, the main improvements are performance and "under the hood" tweaks. For existing users, this is a must and benefits from a fairly dramatic increase in speed. There's also a separate portable version and a download for your Mac.

For fans of Spotify, the latest v0.5.2 was made available this week and offers support for US users. Minus a few ads, this hugely popular application enables users to search for, play and listen to millions of tracks for free, whenever. Spotify is available for Windows, Mac and other mobile devices.

Lastly, Cyberduck 4.1 for Windows and for Mac is a major upgrade to the popular free FTP client. Use this tool to admin a remote server, upload content to your Amazon S3 storage and download files from a secure FTP site.
