The Samsung R780 has excellent specifications and is great value for money

The general manger of GFI Security, Alex Eckelberry, has apologised for the role his software played in allegations that Samsung was installing key-logging software on its laptops.

Initial reports that Samsung was installing the software have proved do be down to a false positive generated by GFI's Vipre security code. The software identified a Slovenian language directory for Windows Live as the same directory path that is used by the StarLogger malware.

"False positives do happen. It's inevitable and, like all anti-virus companies, we continually strive to improve our detection while reducing any chance of a false positive," blogged Eckelberry.

"This one (admittedly, an incredibly embarrassing one) made it through our processes, and I have met with the senior managers in the area this morning to handle what happened and to continue to improve our processes."

Samsung has issued an official statement on the matter, confirming that the issue has been resolved.
