Screengrab_2 Over the last few years, the development of widgets has become so popular that Apple built them in to Mac OS X, through the Dashboard. Recently Microsoft added the Sidebar to Vista, which is a collection of widgets, much like the OS X Dashboard. However, there are third-party (and in some cases, better) options.

Yahoo Widget Engine 4.0.5 is a widget manager that will enable you to drop widgets directly on to your desktop, so that you can access these directly - such as a widget that shows the current weather in either your local town or holiday destination. An alternative widget would be one that displays parcel tracking information, so you can track a delivery to your door. Yahoo Widget Engine 4.0.5 is also available for OS X, enabling widget developers to produce widgets for both operating systems.
