Fugitive security software pioneer John McAfee has fled Belize, according to a new posting from his personal blog.
McAfee is wanted for questioning in a murder case in the Central American country. News of McAfee's departure from Belize comes after reports that he had been captured by authorities in Central America.
He has reported that he attempted to trick authorities into arresting a body double so he could escape to Mexico.
"My 'double', carrying on a North Korean passport under my name, was in fact detained in Mexico for pre-planned misbehaviour," McAfee wrote in his blog.
"But due to indifference on the part of authorities was evicted from the jail and was unable to serve his intended purpose in our exit plan. He is now safely out of Mexico."
The security software pioneer is wanted for questioning in a case involving the murder of one of McAfee's neighbours in Belize. Authorities in Belize continue to state they only wish to ask McAfee questions.
However, McAfee claims to be a victim of a witch hunt which has endangered his safety and that of people close to him.
According to his blog, McAfee has fled Belize to in attempt to remove his girlfriend, Sam, from danger. McAfee has reported that he will return to Belize to clear his name once Sam is safe.
"I left Belize because of a series of events which led both Sam and I to believe that she was in danger of capture. She has been my go-between and my eyes and ears in the outside world. I decided to make the move," wrote McAfee.
"I will be returning to Belize after I have place[d] Sam in a safe position. My fight is in Belize, and I can do little in exile."
