HP updates Application Lifecycle Intelligence tool for software update insights

VIENNA: HP has added a new element to its Application Life Management tool to help large enterprises keep track of changes made to applications so that staff productivity is not restricted by updates and alterations to software platforms.

The Application Lifecycle Intelligence (ALI) product is designed to allow IT staff to track changes made to applications on any platform, and will form another part of HP's IT Performance Suite.

Ajei Gopal, senior vice president of software products at HP, told V3 that the tool is ideally suited to large organisations using composite applications consisting of a number of components that can be edited as requested by staff.

"One of the problems with composite applications is that, once the app is up and running, you have to make alterations as the business needs change. So you end up with different teams making modifications at different times and you need to track that," he said.

"With ALI you can see across all environments what developers are doing and how the changes are affecting how applications are working."

HP also announced a new Service Health Analytics (SHA) tool that offers predictive analytic capabilities around the demand for applications.

"SHA provides staff with insights on what might happen around staff access to applications so they can dynamically set thresholds around a potential access problem before it happens," Gopal said.

Finally, HP has updated its Business Software Management tool to version 9.1, with the inclusion of new key performance indicators for the management of applications that can include data from the SHA tool.

The updates are all available now, and Gopal said that pricing depends on customers' individual licensing agreements with HP.
