HP has unveiled an update to its client virtualisation platform that uses management and monitoring tools to streamline the deployment of virtual desktops.
HP Client Virtualization, Analysis and Modeling is designed to help companies plan and deploy virtual workstation platforms running Windows 7 on virtualisation systems from VMware View and Citrix XenDesktop, among others.
The firm has partnered with management software firm Lakeside to offer HP migration services in combination with the Lakeside SysTrack platform. Under the deal, HP will offer its virtualisation services, as well as SysTrack management tools.
The companies believe that the bundled service will help customers migrate to virtualised desktop deployments, and manage and optimise the systems to maintain performance.
"Organisations need to accurately design the right desktop solution for each client's segment, which requires information that is specific to their environment and unique computing needs," said Tom Norton, HP Technology Services global practice director for Microsoft and client infrastructure consulting services.
"HP and Lakeside Software have deep industry expertise advising organisations on how to best transform the desktop virtualisation experience."
The introduction of the service comes as virtualisation firms are shifting focus to the desktop virtualisation space. VMware released its View platform earlier this year in what it billed as a move to the post-PC era.
Citrix has also expanded its efforts in the workstation space, unveiling the HDX system-on-a-chip platform.
