The biggest news of the week has been Microsoft’s announcement that it will be offering a discounted version of Windows 7 for students. In the UK, eligible students will be able to get their hands on a copy for £30. However, US students will be getting a much better deal than their UK counterparts, with US pricing set at $30 – less than £20.
Staying on the Microsoft operating system theme, the next most popular story with V3.co.uk readers was the Redmond giant’s admission that Vista was a "less good product" than some of its other offerings. The shocking revelation was made by Charles Songhurst, Microsoft's general manager of corporate strategy, at an investor's conference. But he didn’t go quite as far as saying that Vista is a bloaty, slow, underwhelming operating system that has failed to supplant XP in most organisations.
Elsewhere it’s been a frenzy of multimedia activity on the site. Our video coverage of Intel showing off Larrabee at IDF, a hands-on with Sony’s new touch-screen e-book reader, and a demo of a UK folding plug system all proved popular with V3 visitors.
