Google has won a resounding vote of confidence in its controversial Street View tool, according to a poll of vnunet.com readers.
Street View gives a 360-degree view of streets by merging photos collected by car-mounted cameras. The application created a furore after images of individuals were posted without their consent.
Google was forced to pull the images, including a man vomiting in Shoreditch and another man outside a Soho sex shop, for fears it was infringing privacy laws, prompting some to call for the tool to be canned altogether.
However, 58 per cent of the 2,500 respondents to the vnunet.com poll said that no further action needs to be taken, and that the removal of the offending images is an adequate response.
Some 15 per cent of readers thought that Google should do more to obscure people caught by the Street View cameras by blotting out bodies completely, while 21 per cent said that the site breaches privacy rights and should be taken down.
Do you agree?
Statistics confusion
Whilst I like the Street view I cannot call 58% a resounding success. It only needs an 8% change in the overall voters to make it 50 / 50.

Am I mad?
I'm glad to see this result in a poll!
I think we should just embrace this wonderful technology that we have, and enjoy the many uses that could come of it!
I could easily jump in a car and drive down any street and see the same places, houses and anybody that just happens to be vomiting in the street or exiting a sex shop!

Paranoid!!
Why are people so paranoid about seeing themselves on the internet? Its not as though you dont get seen by dozens of people every day (unless you don't leave your home). The images on Street View are no more intrusive than if someone walked down the street and looked at you.
The Americans are more security conscious than we are and they are happy with it.
Come on Britain, lighten up a bit!!
