Surfers illegally downloading copyrighted material from the internet will have their connections cut under new legislative proposals being drafted by the UK government.
The proposed Green Paper, which the Government is due to unveil next week, will require ISPs to take action against the estimated six million users a year who access pirated material.
The law is expected to propose a 'three-strike' system, similar to that already in place in the US and France.
Users suspected of illegally downloading content will first receive a warning email from their service provider.
Should they continue to download copyrighted content, they will receive a suspension from the service and any if caught a third time, they will have their internet access completely cut off.
It is unclear whether those customers who have running contracts with their service provider will have to continue to pay for the service or if the contract will be terminated early.
There is also no word on if these banned users will be blacklisted by other ISPs, or if they could simply sign up to another service provider.
A spokeswoman for the Department for Culture, Media and Sport said: "Early drafts of our creative economy programme document were circulated to stakeholders for comment.
"The content and proposals for the strategy have been significantly developed since then and a comprehensive plan to bolster the UK's creative industries will be published shortly. We will not comment on the content of the leaked document. "
Although the full details are not yet available, the news is already causing consternation among privacy advocacy groups.
It has also raised concerns about how the law could be effectively implemented, particularly in light of the growing use of mobile internet technologies such as WiMax and 3G data services.
Do you agree?
How?
Wouldn't this just make people encrypt the files?

United Kingdom - A state of China
Torturing political prisoners in Iraq, monitoring and banning internet usage, super prisons, detention without charge.....democracy in name only.
U.K. is truly lost, all while we were watching and we did nothing about it. Sad really.

Illegal downloaders face net ban - reply
I dont thnk any internet service provider would ban there paying customers for downloading simply because the majority of the people who use the internet use it purely to download, ISP's will loose out too much money if they do such a thing. Plus Prices on cd's and dvd's are just too high nowadays they either need to lower the prices on cd's and dvd's or people will just continue to download illegal content.
Besides With everything being wireless people will just hack into other peoples network and download it really isn't hard to hack into a wireless network a 10year old could do it. just follow some tutorials on youtube and you are done.

Do you honestly think this will stop the one's who know how the system works?
Basicly if the Goverment thinks they can control the internet they are sadly mistaken, Any one in the know will get passed any restrictions imposed, either by going through a proxy or the peer to peer apps will simply adopt a data encryption system so that even the ISP can not detect if Ilegal packets are being tranfered to a user, This system is alrady being adopted in one Peer to peer app that I know off and of course other's will follow suit if there becomes a need for it. The Goverment's dont stand a chance against the Blackhats of this world!!! This is simply our goverment taking a Comunist way of llooking at things bit Like China try and prevent their user's from even getting to Google!! But of course millions of Chinese people have found a way round this. What's that old saying, where there's a will there's a way!!!

3rd world dictatorship
seems more and more are we being spied upon by the gov. i am sick and tired of being spied on. "if you have nothing to hide why worry?", well its MY life and i'll live it the way I want to. i'm not hurting anyone. god forbid i cost a multibillion dollar industry a few bucks... so what. about time they were paid back for ripping us off for the many years they have. seems to me thieving is perfectly legal as long as you are rich. the more you are worth the more you can get away with. i download tunes, primarily because the bands (real bands that actually play their own instruments and write their own music) are very difficult to find where i live. i support them by going to concers and buying the shirts etc. remember the petrol protests? rather than appease the people that elected them the gov brought out the army! yes the government listen... to the big time corporations not the individuals that elected them. and saying that.. i certainly don't remember voting for Brown as PM do any of you? naaa didn't think so. but at least now i can be rest assured his eviction from #10 is secured

hmmmm...
ok.. well i guess when (if) this law passes the time is here to listen in to peoples private phone calls. spy on them through their windows. browse their bank details. stalk them. all, of course, to make sure they are living their life according to gov regulations..... we all know that the gov knows best. dare we argue?

Plutocracy, will fall
It's great that outside companies and corporations have more of a say on our(UK) law than we do? Who could ask for war, we didn't. That is a crime that should be addressed here.

Banned from face book
I was recently banned from face book due to the fact i wrote a message to my grandson ,no swearing or no rough language. It was about the play college U.F.at Gainsville. My grandson did not read it,but his roommate read it and spread it all over to my grandson"s friends.I only left it on the net for about 10 minutes. These messages should not go to anyone but the person they are intended to. Another sample a girl applied for a job she would have gotten the job but she bad mouthed the company over face book and it got back to the company SHE DID NOT GET THE JOB .The company was going to hire here.I'd say please let the parties know.
