Aerohive Networks has released a free
tool designed to make it easier for IT teams to plan and deploy wireless
networks.
The
Online
Wi-Fi Planner Web Application allows users to build an interactive map to
get a better view of their systems and resources.
Users can then position access points (APs) on the map and study how this affects their signal strength. Once the APs have been deployed, the system can be used to monitor and report on AP performance.
“With the adoption of 802.11n, wireless is no longer being viewed as a nice to have feature for employees, but as critical business infrastructure,” said Adam Conway, vice president of product management at Aerohive.
“As more organisations rely on wireless to support voice, video and data networks, ensuring proper AP density for performance and reliability is essential and must be factored in during the deployment planning stages."
Aerohive said the map and reports can be shared with other parties, meaning that IT, as well as building services, and potentially telecoms firms, can be involved in the decision making process.
