Twitter has announced that the number of tweets originating from mobile devices has jumped by 62 per cent since April.
Some 46 per cent of active Twitter users regularly use mobile versions of the application in one form or another.
"We quickly understood that we were doing users a disservice by not having a great client on each of the major mobile platforms," said Twitter chief executive Evan Williams in a blog post.
"As we had hoped in April, these clients are bringing more people into Twitter and, even better, they are attracting and retaining active users."
The Twitter.com site remains the most popular method for accessing the service at 78 per cent of users. The next three most popular clients, however, are mobile versions.
The m.twitter.com site is the second most popular at 14 per cent of users, followed by SMS, iPhone and Twitter for Blackberry.
"It's great to see this kind of variety and growth in the ecosystem as it moves beyond basic Twitter clients," said Williams.
"These new services help people get the most out of Twitter, contributing to user growth and new business opportunities, both of which are critical to the long-term viability of the ecosystem."
