AMD takes Intel anti-trust fight to Germany

AMD has accused Intel of paying a retailer not to sell any PCs powered by competing chips

AMD plans to file a complaint against Intel in Germany, accusing the rival chip-maker of anti-competitive behaviour.

The complaint follows a report in Financial Times Deutschland last week alleging that Intel pays German retailer Media Markt not to sell any PCs powered by competing chips.

AMD filed a lawsuit against Intel in the US last year, alleging that the company engaged in "worldwide coercion" of computer makers, and "illegal acts" that result in inflated computer prices and a lack of competition.

Intel was also accused of offering cash payments to a series of computer makers to ensure exclusive contracts.

The company also is charged with retaliating against manufacturers which courted AMD by withholding payments due to them through marketing aid programmes.
