Google is reportedly trialling a new service which would include its search engine on set-top television boxes.
A report in The Wall Street Journal claims that the company is working with satellite provider Dish Network to offer Google Search features for television programming and streaming internet video services.
The new boxes would reportedly run a version of the Android operating system, and could be integrated with Google's advertising operations.
News of the possible venture comes as television manufacturers step up the production of sets with internet connectivity and support for streaming video services.
The reported Google service would not be its first venture into the TV space. The company launched a TV ad sales service in 2007 which allows advertisers to bid for and purchase TV advertising spots over the web.
