UK retailers slash PS3 prices

After a strong launch it now appears that UK sales of the Sony PlayStation 3 have started to drop off, forcing two major retailers to slash their prices for the console.
WH Smith took out adverts in the Sun newspaper last week, promoting a £25 reduction in the retail price of the console. WH Smith has been offering the basic PlayStation 3 console pack for £399.99 over the bank holiday weekend.
But good news for those not finding out until today - the offer actually runs until Tuesday April 10.
Alternatively, online retailer Play.com has also cut the price of the PlayStation 3 to £399.99 including delivery.
Cutting 13 per cent, or £64.98, off its own package, Play.com is offering the Sony Playstation 3 PS3 Console with 60GB HDD, HDMI cable and a copy of the film Click on Blu-Ray, for £399.99.

I think its time for an official price cut
Retailers also have to make money, so if they're going to have to slash prices in order to sell the consoles, then they'll most likely reduce the quantity of their next order. Sony did manage to sell a lot of consoles to retailers since they were all expecting a mad rush, plus the first 10 days seemed to prove their theory. However, all good things must come to an end.
To stay competitive Sony will most likely do a price cut. And if they do, Microsoft will follow... if not beat them to it. No, wait. They can't beat Sony to it because Sony knows that would affect their image.
