Toshiba has unveiled a number of new laptops, including what it claims is the world's lightest full-sized model weighing just 800g.
Launched in the UK today, the Portégé R600 has a 12.1in display and a specification capable of running Windows Vista, yet weighs just over 800g, according to Toshiba.
The ultra-portable has 3Gb of memory as standard and the option of either a 200GB hard drive or 128Gb Flash solid state drive (SSD).
Also optional is a DVD super-multi drive, which pushes the weight up above a kilogram, and an embedded HSDPA modem for mobile broadband access. Prices for the Portégé R600 start at £1,099.
Other models launched today include another ultra-portable, the Portégé A600; the Portégé M750 Tablet PC with a swivelling display; the Satellite Pro S300 mainstream laptop; and a new corporate model, the Tecra R10.
The Tecra R10 is Toshiba's first 14.1in widescreen model with a weight under 2kg, according to Toshiba. It is aimed at users needing a compact, lightweight and robust product without compromising on screen size and overall computing performance.
With prices from £899, the Tecra R10 is based on Intel's Centrino 2 mobile platform and can be configured with up to 8Gb memory and either a hard drive or Flash SSD. An embedded HSDPA modem is optional.
All of the new models are available from the end of October, with the Portégé A600 costing £849, the Satellite Pro S300 starting at £439 and the Portégé M750 from £849.
