UK firms still lagging in SOA deployment

SAP believes that service oriented architectures offer increased efficiency

Most UK organisations either fail to understand or have no plans in place to implement a service oriented architecture (SOA) strategy, according to preliminary findings from SAP User Group research released today.

Despite one-third of global organisations stating that they are actively using SOA, and a further 27 per cent investigating implementation, these figures dropped to 13 per cent and 32 per cent among UK-based firms.

Companies should be investigating SOA as it can help streamline the " internal workings of your organisation" and improve total cost of ownership, according to Alan Bowling, chairman of the UK and Ireland SAP User Group.

"At a time when all organisations to some extent are being impacted by the global squeeze, this is a way to improve your costs by increased efficiency, especially in the areas of B2B and B2C, by building reusable services or in fact capitalising on the services already available in the SAP services repository," he said.
