Novell has re-jigged its executive management team with the appointment of a new president for the EMEA region.
Currently vice president and general manager of partners, Javier Colado will take over the role from Volker Smid, and will have overall responsibility for sales and business operations in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, reporting directly to Novell president and chief executive Ron Hovsepian.
Smid has held the post since December 2006 and is leaving to pursue other interests. Colado will take up the mantle once he has completed his current project of creating and launching Novell's next-generation global channel and partner programme.
Colado's existing responsibilities will fall to Novell's marketing organisation reporting to John Dragoon, who will continue to serve as chief marketing officer.
"I am very pleased to announce Javier's appointment which will help drive the growth opportunities we see in EMEA," said Hovsepian.
"Javier's leadership in launching Novell's new channel strategy, as well as his strong sales management experience, will serve him well in his new role and enhance the execution of our new partner-centric model in EMEA."
Colado joined Novell in 2006 as area general manager and vice president for western EMEA where he was responsible for all sales and marketing operations.
Prior to that he held senior executive positions with McAfee and Lucent Technologies, where he helped spearhead business partner and channel strategy and sales.
