Vodafone customer gets £11,000 bill

A Vodafone customer has reportedly received a bill for £11,000 after downloading television episodes while abroad.
Reports in The Telegraph said that a businessman's wife set up the download of US series Friends on a mobile broadband card before he left for an overseas trip.
The downloads, which would have been free in the UK, ended up costing £11,000.
However, a Vodafone spokeswoman claimed that there were some "factual inaccuracies" in The Telegraph story.
"In cases like this we make every effort to contact the customer in case of fraud," she said.
Vodafone refused to comment on individual cases but said that the company attempts to reach a settlement with customers where very large bills are concerned.
Ofcom chief executive Ed Richards has confirmed that he will investigate the case.
Viviane Reding, EU Commissioner for Information, Society and Media, has pledged to cut roaming data charges, promising unilateral action by 1 July 2008 if mobile operators fail to act.

A family member of mine has just been cut off by Vodafone for refusal to pay a £300 bill that he believes has nothing to do with him. He has only been with Vodafone for 8 days! They have been extremely unhelpful and have not made any effort to investigate this matter.
It is almost criminal to think that he only found out because he could not make calls or text from his mobile phone. When he rang Vodafone up to sort out what he thought was a minor problem, he was told he had run up a £300 bill. Why didn't they contact him earlier? Why didn't they see a £300 bill run up within 7 days as suspicious?? This is hugely irresponsible on Vodafones part and they have not treated this as a suspicious incident. It's unbelievable really.
Vodafone offer a poor service and their customer service needs an urgent review because they have not helped in the slightest and most of the operators we have spoken to have been highly unprofessional and rude.

They deserved it
If they are literate and knowledgeable enough to search out and download the files than they are also literate and knowledgeable enough to read the terms of thier contract.
