Dell to launch AT&T Android smartphone in 2010

Dell is reportedly planning a full screen phone with an integrated camera

Dell is reportedly planning the US launch of an Android-powered full screen smartphone in 2010 on the AT &T network.

"People briefed on the plans" told The Wall Street Journal that the handset would be a full screen phone with an integrated camera, similar to a model it displayed in August at an event with China Mobile.

That device, which the company claimed was a prototype, was dubbed the Mini 3i and had a 3-megapixel camera, but no Wi-Fi or 3G support. The planned phone will have extra features added before launch, the sources said.

The handset should be released early in 2010 in the US on the AT&T network, but the sources said that Dell was also looking for other US networks to join.

The company had planned to launch two new handsets, an Android and a Windows Mobile device, at this year's 3GSM conference. However, after an apparent tepid response from carriers the plans were dropped.

Dell has been making open moves to get into the Chinese market with China Mobile since August, but rumours of a US launch have been persistent and the computer manufacturer says it is " focused on mobility".
