Atos lands Government Gateway contract

The Government Gateway will provide 'joined-up' online services to citizens

Downing Street has awarded a £46.7m contract for the Government Gateway to IT services company Atos Origin. 

The Gateway is central to the Blair administration's Transformational Government strategy enabling public sector utilities like the Department for Work and Pensions and Revenue & Customs to provide "joined-up" online services to citizens. 

The contract will run for an initial period to 31 March 2011. Atos will collaborate with enGage, the project team responsible for implementing the Gateway.

"The Government Gateway is a key component of common infrastructure, and supports the public sector response to the ambitious challenge for shared services set out in the Transformational Government paper," said John Suffolk, the government's chief information officer.

Derek Ward, executive vice president at Atos, added: "Atos Origin is delighted to continue contributing to the success of the Transformational Government agenda.

"We are looking forward to working, under the auspices of enGage, with Microsoft and the Cabinet Office."
