Broadband network provider Telabria is deploying meshed wireless telephony radios to deliver high-speed internet access to rural areas that cannot receive DSL or cable services.
Telabria's infrastructure is based on hardware from wireless telephony manufacturer P-Com's Speedlan 9000, a family of broadband wireless routers featuring 128-bit encryption for mesh, star and point-to-point deployment.
Jim Baker, Telabria president and chief executive, told vnunet.com: "The service will be available in Barham in Kent and a number of other rural areas in the south east."
Baker declined to confirm the exact price, but said that a figure of £30 a month would be "about right".
Geoff Giese, vice president and head of licence-exempt products for P-Com, said in a statement: "A rapidly growing number of residents and businesses in England want broadband access but today can't get it because of the physical limitations of DSL and cable service, while dial-up is unacceptably slow.
"By partnering with P-Com, Telabria is creating a powerful wireless infrastructure that can provide broadband services to virtually any portion of the country."
