Apple has this confirmed that Wi-Fi versions of the iPad will be available in the US from 3 April.
The Wi-Fi + 3G model still has no specific US release date other than "late April", the same for the UK Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi + 3G versions.
The announcement is the first official confirmation of a US release date for the much-vaunted tablet device.
Customers will be able to pre-order both models from Apple's online store from 12 March, but only the Wi-Fi model can be reserved and picked up in store.
Apple chief executive Steve Jobs claimed that the iPad represents something completely new on the market that will change the way people use applications.
"We are excited for customers to get their hands on this revolutionary product and connect with their apps and content in a more intimate, intuitive and fun way than ever before," he said.
Apple has confirmed that the Wi-Fi model available on 3 April in the US will retail at a suggested price of $499 for the 16GB model, $599 for the 32GB and $699 for the 64GB (£330, £399 and £465).
The Wi-Fi + 3G models will be available at a suggested retail price of $629 for the 16GB model, $729 for the 32GB and $829 for the 64GB (£420, £485 and £550).
The company said that international pricing will be announced in April. Rumours recently suggested that pricing for the iPad in the UK could exceed that of the US.

Apple confirms US iPad release date
At last, we see the Steve Jobs coming up to keep the promise. The reason I like him more then Bill Gates is. Microsoft always promises the windows and doors but there is always delay and we get this one year late. At least Steve had one problem with the burning chips along with Dell. but that is forgotten. We are very forgiving when the promise is kept but do not leave if the promise hangs like the grapes on the tree and we cannot reach the grapes. That is true.
Tell me one day from the Dos to win 3, 3.1 to 96, 98, 2001, 2003, and now, when has the employees of the giant Bill Gates have opened the windows in time? Don?t they always come after the fire has been reduced to ashes and makes me look like the police arrival after the cash has been looted, distributed, and no need of counting as it appears in the papers nest day. Microsoft has let us down many times, not just once. There was a time when no one asked question. Who would ask the king? Microsoft gobbled Small Corporation in 1990 except Intuit, the accountants Quick Books. Intuit did not budge and Microsoft has to write their own Money software.
I thank you
