O2 has denied claims that its long-expected buyout of The Link chain of mobile phone shops has been finalised.
"It is no secret that we have been in discussions for quite a while now with DSG regarding the future of The Link but nothing has been signed and nothing has been agreed," an O2 spokesman told vnunet.com.
O2 is a 40 per cent shareholder in The Link and the discussions of a full takeover have been ongoing for more than a year.
However, O2 described the deal as too small to need a quick decision. "We've been in no hurry to do a deal and for O2 it's fairly immaterial in terms of the value and the money involved," the spokesman said.
O2 admitted that any eventual takeover could lead to the end of The Link brand. "Some stores would be rebranded, and O2 may have a view of selling others off at some stage," the company said.
Do you agree?
THE LINK
I JUST HAVE ONE QUESTION, WHAT WILL BECOME OF THE LINK WORKERS?
Posted by COOKIE, 27 Jun 2006
oh but it has...
the link has been fully bought out by 02, with them re-branding roughly 100 stores as 02, and the other 200 will be sold off too other networks, those that dont sell will close.. the last trading date for the link is the end of january 2007!!! the staff will be taken on by those who buy the relative stores... if the get that far of course what with most link staff jumping ship, due to lack of comunication during the transitional period...
so its offical, no more link!!!!

Worried Link customer
If its to be the end of The Link, what happens to the Mobile Phone cashback contracts they have with new and existing customers? Do we still get our money back when this happens?
