Google is wrapping up a month-long celebration of its tenth anniversary with a special birthday logo based on its original image.
The design sported birthday decorations on top of the 1998 logo that is largely similar to that which is currently in use.
Marissa Mayer, vice president of search products and product engineering at Google, said in a blog posting that the birthday logo is not only a celebration of the company's history, but a call to a Google tradition which is nearly as old as the company itself.
In 1998, Google founders Sergey Brin and Larry Page took a short holiday from their fledgling company to attend the infamous Burning Man festival. In order to notify other users, the two inserted a small Burning Man image into the Google logo.
The custom logo became a tradition at Google, and the company has marked holidays and special occasions with new logos ever since.
The logo marks the culmination of a month-long anniversary celebration at Google. The company chose to spend much of the effort reflecting on Google's past and predicting the ways in which the company could see its business change over the next 10 years of its existence.
Among the topics about which Google executive have waxed poetic are the future of search and the future of internet indexing systems.
