Microsoft is suffering serious problems with its Hotmail service, with some users unable to access their accounts for two days.
The software giant has not released details of the problem but angry users have been expressing their frustration about the lack of service.
Hotmail has about 80 million users and accounts for nearly a quarter of the webmail market.
"We are aware that some customers may be experiencing difficulty accessing their Windows Live accounts," said a Microsoft spokeswoman.
"We are actively investigating the cause and are working to take the appropriate steps to remedy the situation as rapidly as possible. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience and disruption this may be causing our customers."
Microsoft said in previous statements that the problem had been resolved but it has reoccurred, indicating a serious malfunction.
The news will be a boon to Google and Yahoo, which are also key players in the web mail market.
Several vnunet.com readers have indicated their frustration over the outage. "I'm totally locked out," said one. "I'm giving it another a day then going to Google. I've had enough of this."

Why has microsoft not come out with any news regarding this outage? Many of us who are dependant on our email for communication on the road have no way of corresponding with friends and family. Yet,we have not been given or told of any solutions for this issue. Or, is it in the mail?

RE:hotmail problems.
I have been with hotmail for years and never experienced any problems until the last 3 months where i have been unable to check my emails for days on end.
What really annoys me is that I am waiting to hear from several potential work places and I rely on receiving emails to set up interview times via email.
Hopefully when I don't get back to these potential employers,they will give me another chance!
Please Microsoft,fix this problem ASAP or I will be forced to go to another service and I don't want to do this.

Hotmail
Both my daughter and I haven't been able to access our Hotmail direct for weeks! We have to google hotmail and then enter via our account - in the past few hours this option has now been taken away. Seriously considering going to gmail if this continues.

No hotmail account for 10 days
I have had no access at all to my account from wednesday before last. I am sure this problem existed before 'the last few days' as many reports are asserting. Has anyone else experienced the same problems of longer access denial?

Is there a way to forward my hotmail e-mails to my yahoo acct (when I can't get into my hotmail account)? I'm waiting on a couple of really important e-mails ...

I have had an hotmail account for ten years with no problems until recently. The first indication was when I would try to sign in and couldn't then it asked me to sign up for windows live which I did just so I could get to my e-mail. Know for the last three days I have not been able to acess any of my information. The first day my e-mail page would come up but all the information in the e-mails was gone it was just the to and from. Tha last two days it just keeps trying to reroute it and tells me to try again later. I need the information on my e-mail everyday as I am a student. This is how we communcate with everyone. I have no idea what I'm suppose to turn in next week, I can't send out my resume as it is in my e-mail, I can't e-mail anyone to find out whats going on because all of my e-mail contacts are on my hotmail account. With all the money and employees this company has they should stop making excuses and fix the problem!!

Again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Same old Hotmail probs as before, error says userID not recognised, in correct passwords etc etc. WRONG !!!!. Somethings gone badly wrong again and no one seems to want to accept responsibility for it.
