Opera further hailed the success of its Mini mobile web browser today with new figures showing it has more than 30 million users worldwide.
Overall adoption of the browser increased by more than 9.9 per cent from July this year or by more than 147 per cent when compared with August 2008, according to Opera's latest State of the Mobile Web report for August.
The top three web sites accessed by UK users of Opera’s Mini mobile web browser during the month were Facebook, Google and the BBC, in that order.
Customers’ favourite handsets, on the other hand, were LG’s KC910 offering, otherwise known as ‘Renoir’, Nokia’s 6300 and LG’s KE 970, which is also referred to as ‘Shine’.
The study also indicated that Russians were the most avid users of the organisation’s technology, followed by Indonesians and Indians. The UK came ninth in its top 10 countries listing.
In Europe, meanwhile, the browser was most popular among Germans, the French and the Czechs, while Turkey saw the fastest adoption rates at 218.8 per cent over the past year. Second in terms of growth rates was France with a 100.7 per cent increase in uptake, followed by the Czech Republic at 72.2 per cent.
“Opera Mini proves that the key to sustained growth of the mobile web is a capable browser," said Jon von Tetzchner, the organisation’s chief executive.
"We work hard to ensure that Opera Mini works on almost every mobile phone because we are on a mission to bring the web to the world, and the mobile phone is the world’s most prevalent communications device.”
