iPhone overtakes Windows Mobile in the US

Apple's iPhone has passed Microsoft's Windows Mobile platform in total market share for the first time, according to a recent report.
Research firm comScore estimated that the iPhone logged some 8.97 million users during the three months to the end of October, while Windows Mobile logged 7.13 million.
Both smartphone operating systems are still well behind Research In Motion and its BlackBerry platform, which leads with 14.96 million active users.
The figures mark the first time that Apple's iPhone OS has logged more users in the US than devices equipped with Windows Mobile. The report was not entirely surprising, as the iPhone had been steadily gaining ground on Windows Mobile this year.
ComScore's previous report pegged the iPhone with just 29,000 fewer users, while the report before that set the difference at roughly 1.3 million.
The report comes as the industry prepares for major announcements at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas next month.
While Apple has now left the Macworld Expo, the company has traditionally made major announcements of its own in January, including the unveiling of the original iPhone.

Windows Phones are failing
It's just one more report (among many) that show that Microsoft's Windows Mobile phone operating system has failed in the market. It's finished. The platform just cannot survive with its falling market share. I would not buy a Windows Mobile phone, because I don't want to be left with a dead platform after Microsoft axes it. I think the market leaders will be Android and iPhone. Plus, the Androids and iPhones have better application support, and a much more modern interface.
