Like the weeks following a break-up, it seems that many of us are searching for 'down in the dumps' music to reflect our money worries.
Entertainment recommendation service TheFilter.com reported that the number of people listening to snippets of gloomy music have soared in the past month.
The personalised content filtering system has seen well known 'downbeat' bands like The Smiths flying up its popularity charts much faster than happier types of music, which it attributes to the woeful economic climate.
"We are seeing more of our users than ever before rating depressing or slightly miserable tracks more highly than happier types of music," said David Maher-Roberts, chief executive at TheFilter.com.
"It is logical to assume that this is a reflection of what's happening in the economy. The good news is that there are a large number of happier, more uplifting tracks out there than can do wonders for your mood."
The top 10 most popular depressing songs on TheFilter.com:
Amy Winehouse - Tears Dry On Their Own
The Beatles - Eleanor Rigby
The Smiths - Heaven knows I'm miserable now
Coldplay - Trouble
The Verve - The Drugs Don't Work
Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb
Blur - No Distance Left To Run
Radiohead - How to Disappear Completely
R.E.M. - Everybody Hurts
Joy Division - Love Will Tear Us Apart
Do you agree?

Has anyone actually tried using 'The FIlter' ? It's complete rubbish - nothing works. It's recommending me totally unsuitable music I hate - the films are like my granny's collection of VHS.
