The US Consumer Product Safety Commission has told US storage device maker I-O Data to issue a recall of one of its power supplies after reports of the unit melting.
The recall affects AC adapters sold with I-O Data network hard disk drives with the model numbers UHDL-160U or UHDL-300U. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.
"The AC adapters can overheat or melt, posing a burn hazard to consumers," the company said.
About 740 of the units have been sold between December 2004 through February 2007.
The network hard disk drives with adapters were sold for between $300 and $400. I-O Data has received three reports of the adapters overheating and deforming or melting. No injuries have been reported.
