IT consultancy Living Life Green has released an energy management solution designed to help businesses save money, and the planet.
CarbonWise Enterprise 2009 offers new reporting features designed to make energy management simpler, according to the company, as well as making costs and usage more transparent.
The software sits in a central location and offers claimed savings of up to 60 per cent on the energy costs associated with running a network of PCs.
The latest release includes a new CarbonDashboard to administer and monitor carbon and energy costs, along with 'wake up' technology that can be used to turn PCs on and off remotely.
It also offers a new management console, and tools to power down, or power up, systems on request when critical applications are in use.
The CarbonDashboard plugs directly into CarbonWise, and lets the user view statistics and create reports using a variety of metrics including energy, carbon, cost and efficiency.
"CarbonWise 2009 provides greater power for IT departments to manage their estate and to achieve real-world accountable savings," said Graeme Scott, operations director at Living Life Green.
"The CarbonDashboard gives corporate social responsibility and accounts departments the ability to independently generate comprehensive reports for carbon foot-printing and cost centre analysis, especially important for those affected by the Carbon Reduction Commitment."
Do you agree?
What about the little guy?
Sounds nice, but tossing in terms like "enterprise" and "roi" I'd say that albeit useful it's just another expensive monitoring utility written purely for profit and the green angle is just a PR hook. If they really cared about the environmental issues they'd be a cheap, even free cut down version for the home user, hmmm! (For comparison Britsh Gas give away hardware realtime energy monitor!)
