Open-source content management vendor Alfresco today launched a major new version of its free enterprise content management solution designed to provide mobile support, improved interoperability and enhanced records management.
Alfresco Community Edition 3.2 includes support for BlackBerry, iPhone and other smartphone devices, enabling users to access content on the go, according to the firm.
"When John Newton founded the company the goal was to make content management ubiquitous," said Alfresco product marketing manager Paul Hampton. "We've done that with the desktop clients, and this is the next logical step - giving mobile users access to content."
Alfresco 3.2 also features improved records management capabilities, including Imap support so that emails can be simply dragged and dropped into a virtualised repository.
The product supports the latest version of the forthcoming Content Management Interoperability Services standard, and has extra capabilities allowing users to collaborate more easily on projects, said Hampton.
