Facing dwindling sales, mobile phone manufacturer Nokia has unveiled a range of new consumer handsets, including the world's smallest 3G phone and its first entry-level clamshell.
The firm is showcasing five new phones at its Nokia Connections 2004 event in Helsinki, including three flip-top models.
Standing out is the 6630 3G megapixel cameraphone, which Nokia claims to be the world's lightest and smallest handset.
It boasts a 1.23megapixel camera, with a 6x digital zoom for picture and video capture, an hour's video recording capability and wireless printing facilities compatible with HP and Kodak products.
The 6630 has 74MB memory as standard, and can be used to watch streaming video and play MP3 files. It also supports 3G and Edge networks, with download speeds of up to 384Kbps.
The handset will not be available until the end of the year, and is expected to retail at just under €500 through operators including Vodafone, O2, Orange, 3 and T-Mobile.
Nokia will also introduce its new 2650 entry-level clamshell phone this autumn, offering MMS and Java games and applications. Both the 2650, and the 2600 stick phone variant, feature colour displays and polyphonic ringtones.
The 2650 also features a XHTML browser which can be used to download wallpapers, colour schemes and graphics via GPRS.
The clamshell has an outside LED display to alert users of incoming calls and messages, weighs 97 grams and has up to three hours' talk time and 300 hours' standby, according to Nokia.
Both entry-level phones are available in a choice of red, silver, smoke grey and pearl white, depending on region.
Nokia has also unveiled mid-range clamshell cameraphones and smart phones. The 6170 flip-top, tri-band cameraphone will be available in shops towards the end of the year for around €250.
The 6260 smartphone features a VGA camera and a range of push-to-talk, email, document and document viewer tools. It is expected to retail at €400 and will be available in the autumn.
