Sony's European vice president has admitted that the company's next-generation PlayStation 3 console will cost between €500 and €600 (£350 and £420), according to reports of a radio interview he gave in France.
George Fornay told Europe 1 radio that the PlayStation 3 would be launched in France in November, revealing what should be the release date for the whole of Europe.
The £350-plus price tag will compare very unfavourably with Microsoft's Xbox 360, which costs £205 for the core system and £280 for the premium pack.
The considerable price difference may open up even further, however, as Microsoft will inevitably drop the Xbox 360 price as Sony approaches its PlayStation 3 launch.
The only previous pricing statement for the PlayStation 3 was made by Ken Kutaragi, head of Sony Computer Entertainment, who admitted that it would be " expensive".

£350 for a HD Player?
Why are you making out this to be expensive? Yes it may be a few quid more than an XBox but the XBox does not play HD disks.
You are comparing apples and bananas.
With the first Blu-Ray players expected to be selling for $1000 then this would make the PS3 a very cheap alternative.

I've bought ever sony machine on the first day and i just bought a 360 there is no way i going to give 600 for that when i can get a 360 with 3 games please.....

Users wont pay high price
This is a game console not a movie player and noone in the main stream is ready to move to HD anyway. The market is to small and besides that consoles are still considered "toys" and 500 - 600 USD is to much for 90 percent of money spending Americans I don't know how the rest of the world is going to take the damn thing after all the hardcore croud has theirs.

Sony is Crazy
I could care less if it is a hd-dvd --- i don't want a hd-dvd, i want a playstation 3. I bet you if sony came out with two packages like microsoft did-- one being the most expensive and has the hd-dvd compability and the other being priced the same as the premium package of the xbox 360 and plays just regular dvds --- the one that plays regular dvd's would get the overwhelming attention. Sony is over- complicating this machine and has driven their price unbelievably high. They do not realize how many people they have on the fence, wondering if they will get an 360 or a playstation 3.

uh pathetic??? It will be the coolest, fastestest hardware: graphics and CPU wise, period! Expect prices to drop right before chistmas and dont be stupid and buy it at launch.
